Obtain receipt of distribution from beneficiaries

Once assets have been finally transferred to the deceased’s heirs and beneficiaries, it is important that they sign a receipt of distribution, also known as a receipt for disbursement.

These forms are used as legal evidence that the beneficiaries received the assets to which they were entitled (according to the deceased’s will or state law).

The beneficiary’s signature confirms that they have received the asset or property and accepted it as their own.

These receipt forms are not only important to protect the executor or administrator from potential legal liability, but are typically required by probate court in order to close the deceased’s estate and end the legal probate process.
