Sympathy Gift

An expression of condolence, sent in the form of a gift to a Bereaved person or family.

Typically sent by friends, loved ones, and the greater community to the deceased's family before and after a Funeral or Memorial Service.

Historically, they are in the form of flowers, candles, or food; however, what's best is entirely based upon personal preference or financial situation.

Some religions or cultures may specify what gifts are acceptable, and some surviving families prefer that gifts be made in the form of donations to a charity.

Depending on circumstance, some even prefer that gifts be provided in the form of services, as a way to help support in their time of need.

Examples include, but are not limited to:

  • Watching children, the elderly, or pets
  • Providing transportation
  • Preparing meals
  • Cleaning / laundry
  • General errands
