I draw on a host of skills honed in my former professions of life-coaching, massage therapist, teacher, mother, and medical coder. Intuition and my connection to source is my ultimate guiding light. I enjoy chorale singing and making artistic creations from found objects.
As an End-of-Life Doula, I accompany individuals and their circle of care with compassion and presence. I provide non-medical support, gentle education about the dying process, and practical guidance so families can focus on connection and peace.

Elaine was my angel. She was the one who got us hooked up for the video doctor visit. My brother would have suffered more without her assistance. She was attentive by talking to him calmly and visiting with a snack to enjoy. She kept me from spinning out. In her calm and steady manner, she was a supreme help. She listened as I talked to her. She prompted me to think clearly when I was having a hard time keeping my mind from racing. Just knowing she was available by phone and close by was enormously helpful. She kept notes on important points which I could refer to. This helped me stay focused. My sounding board, my confidant, my angel. Warmly, Christine

What advice would you give someone looking to hire an end-of-life doula?
1. Start with Clarity About Your Needs Before interviewing anyone, take time to reflect on: What kind of support do you need most — emotional, spiritual, practical, or companioning? Are you seeking help for yourself, a loved one, or the family as a unit? Do you want ongoing support, or help through a particular transition (e.g., hospice entry, vigil, grief period)? Having this clarity helps you identify doulas whose training and style match your priorities. 2. Ask About Their Background & Training There is no single national license for doulas, so training and experience vary. Ask: Where were you trained, and how long have you been practicing? Do you have experience with hospice collaboration, spiritual care, or specific medical conditions? What drew you to this work? How do you care for yourself emotionally after client deaths? Their answers can reveal both skill and emotional maturity. 3. Look for a Good Personality Fit A doula’s presence should feel calm, grounded, and attuned to your energy. Notice: Do I feel seen and listened to in our first conversation? Does their communication style make me feel comfortable and respected? Can I imagine them being in the room during very intimate or sacred moments? The relationship matters as much as their résumé. 4. Discuss Boundaries and Scope Doulas offer non-medical support, but within that, scope can differ: Some focus on emotional and spiritual care; others help with planning, ritual, or practical coordination. Ask what services they don’t provide (e.g., medication management, physical care). Clarify expectations around availability, response time, and privacy. A written agreement helps everyone feel safe and clear. 5. Talk About Collaboration End-of-life doulas often work alongside hospice teams, chaplains, and family caregivers. Ask: How do you coordinate with medical staff and spiritual leaders? Are you comfortable joining family meetings or care conferences? Good doulas work gently within the existing care web rather than replacing it. 6. Review Fees and Packages Doulas’ fees vary by region and services. Most charge: Hourly or per-visit rates ($40–$100+) Or packages for specific stages (planning, vigil, grief follow-up) Ask about payment structure, cancellation policies, and what’s included — and remember, this work is often an out-of-pocket investment in emotional and spiritual support. 7. Trust Your Intuition After speaking with a few doulas, take a quiet moment to check in with yourself: Who felt the most natural to talk to? Whose presence left you feeling lighter, calmer, or more supported? If your loved one is the client, how did they respond to the interaction? Your comfort and sense of safety are the best indicators of the right fit. 8. Look for Follow-Through A good doula: Responds to inquiries with warmth and professionalism Offers clear documentation (agreement, fee schedule) Respects boundaries and timing Their initial communication reflects how they’ll show up later.
What questions should clients think through before talking to doulas?
1. Personal Goals & Needs What feels most important to me (or my loved one) at this stage — comfort, meaning, peace, connection, control, or legacy? What specific support am I hoping a doula can provide (emotional, spiritual, practical, planning, presence, ritual)? Am I looking for help for myself, a family member, or both? Have I already started any advance care planning or documentation (living will, healthcare proxy, etc.)? 2. Values & Beliefs How do my spiritual or personal beliefs shape my understanding of dying and death? Are there particular rituals, prayers, readings, or cultural practices I want included? How open am I to creative or non-traditional approaches (e.g., guided imagery, legacy projects, music, meditation, poetry, art)? 3. Practical Details What kind of support schedule might I want — one-time meeting, periodic visits, ongoing presence? Who else is part of my care team (family, hospice, clergy, therapists, etc.)? How comfortable am I with in-home visits vs. remote sessions? Do I need support for specific transitions — e.g., after hospice admission, during active dying, or for grief follow-up? 4. Communication & Fit What kind of personality or communication style will help me feel safe and understood? How involved do I want my family or friends to be in meetings or care planning? Are there topics that are difficult or sensitive for me to talk about? How do I usually prefer to communicate (in person, phone, text, email)? 5. Boundaries & Expectations What are my expectations about availability — evenings, emergencies, or quiet time? What kind of emotional boundaries do I need from the doula? How do I define “support” vs. “decision-making” — what’s my role, and what’s theirs? 6. Financial & Logistical What are the doula’s fees, packages, or visit options? What level of support fits my current budget and needs? Who will handle payment or scheduling if I’m unable to do so later? 7. After-Death & Legacy Do I want help planning a legacy project, writing letters, recording stories, or preparing messages? Are there specific wishes for after-death care, funeral planning, or spiritual rituals? Who do I want informed or supported after my passing?
What populations are you best suited to serve?
I work best with individuals and families from middle-class backgrounds who value honest, heart-centered support through life’s final transitions. My clients are often practical, compassionate people — balancing everyday responsibilities with a desire for peace, dignity, and meaning at the end of life. Whether planning ahead, walking with a loved one through hospice, or seeking quiet spiritual presence, they appreciate a steady companion who brings calm, clarity, and care without pretense.
