Scott Morgan is an end-of-life doula/caregiver. He received his training at the Peaceful Presence Project and is now participating in a 9-month intensive, Foundations of Contemplative Care. He has volunteered at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center and walked many people and families through their journey to death. His approach is compassionate, caring and warm. He helps families and patients understand the dying process and what to expect, making it less frightening. Scott is an attentive listener, wanting to know as much as the family and patient wish to share. The patient is always the center of care. He works alongside the care team to complement, not replace, roles in the care ecosystem. Scott works in Manhattan and the boroughs of New York. Fees are on a sliding scale adjusted to what you can afford. Visit Scott at returninghome.nyc or write to care@returninghome.nyc. Initial consultations are free of charge.

What types of services do you provide?

Emotional Support Creating a safe space for you to express your emotions, process your experiences, and find peace in the midst of transition. Practical Guidance I help plan for end-of-life preferences, ensuring your wishes are respected. We bridge the gap between medical care and personal values. Vigil Support In the final hours, I provide a calm, reassuring presence to honor your journey and offer comfort to your loved ones. We create a comforting and meaningful environment so that the final moments are filled with presence, connection, and peace.

What should clients know about your pricing(e.g., discounts, fees, packages)?

Pricing is flexible and on a case-by-case basis.

What is your typical process for working with a new client?

We have a phone or Zoom meeting to discuss the situation and what the client is looking for in terms of end of life care. If I am not a match, I provide referrals to other caregivers/doulas who may be.

What are some of the ways you have supported someone at end-of-life?

Sat bedside throughout the active dying phase until death. Helped families to understand the dying process and what they may expect to make the experience less frightening. Had open discussions about the client's thoughts and feelings about anything they wished to talk about.

What advice would you give someone looking to hire an end-of-life doula?

I would advise any client to do their due diligence, have an honest, open conversation with the practitioner prior to engaging them, and trust their instincts. If it feels like a good match, it probably is. If you are in any way uncomfortable or do not feel like it's a match, feel free to say so. This is about you and your journey, and you should only have those around you who support you.

What questions should clients think through before talking to doulas?

Where did you receive your training? What did the training cover? What is your experience? What services do you offer? Do you have references? What is your fee structure? Why do you do this work? Tell me about yourself....

What populations are you best suited to serve?

I focus on those who are isolated, have no family, or are alone. Nobody should die alone. I also focus on LGBTQ populations and their unique needs. All are welcome.

Do you offer any physical modalities or specialty training?

I offer guided meditation for presence, clarity and equanimity.

Do you work as part of a collaborative or independently?

I work independently.

Are you willing to work remotely?

I work through Zoom or phone calls if that is best for the client.

I serve people who are in palliative care as a serious illness companion or people who have a terminal diagnosis and/or are nearing end of life. I work with all persons regardless of religion, gender, sexual orientation, faith, spirituality, or socioeconomic status. All are welcome.
