I believe all our seniors, regardless of finances, deserve the right to pass with a personal touch and pampering. I have been a death doula for well over 15 years. I have been with families, the VA, the homeless, and those who have no one. We all need comfort and care in our final days, no matter how much money you have or how you lived your life.

NO ONE DIES ALONE! Many of our seniors have moved away from their families to live in our Quad Cities for a peaceful retirement. I have found that more and more seniors are dying alone without compassion and care. Hospice companies can only provide so many hours and can not provide total care. This is why we started our 501(C)(3) charitable organization, CARING CAUSES. We want to provide education and training for family caregivers and/or support with end-of-life doula care. EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO DIE WITH DIGNITY.

We have many clients who are alone, with no family to help care for them through their end of life. It is a blessing to know that they will not be alone and will be treated with dignity and compassion instead of dying alone. What a beautiful service Sue provides.

Ashley Lebakken

Can not say enough - I was allowed to be a daughter instead of my mother's caregiver. Sue explained every little change we might see and how to comfort our family and my mother.

Brett Zigler

I have been trained by Susan Wielechowski to become an End-of-Life Doula. I searched for many doula trainers and found that Susan offered in-person training. This service requires a personal touch and strong communication. End-of-Life Doula certification should not be an online course. I am so glad I chose Caring Causes, INC, plus they are a non-profit charitable organization.

What types of services do you provide?

End- Of- Life Doula, End-of-Life Doula certification only in person, Family caregiving classes Death Cafe and Alzheimer/Dementia Support groups.

What should clients know about your pricing(e.g., discounts, fees, packages)?

Pricing is decided on a case-by-case basis. No single package fits all. We take our time, listen to your wishes, and develop a team care plan, including family and hospice, moving forward.

What is your typical process for working with a new client?

I meet the client first to get to know each other and see whether we share the same convictions before moving forward. The most important thing about hiring a Death Doula is feeling comfortable knowing the doula will carry out your wishes and provide care. If I am chosen then we will proceed on a team care plan.

What are some of the ways you have supported someone at end-of-life?

If the client is alone with no family to help care for them, I will stay with my client 24/7 during the last days to keep them comfortable, rotated, cleaned, and changed. I will use aromatherapy, light massages, music therapy, and touch until the end of their journey. If the client is with family caregivers, I will communicate what to look for and what will most likely happen to help them prepare and reduce the fear and unknown. Some families ask me to stay so they can stop being the caregivers and become a spouse, partner, brother, sister, daughter, or son.

What advice would you give someone looking to hire an end-of-life doula?

That you are ready to discuss your end of life, what you expect, and what you hope for. Interview several death doulas about their beliefs and what services they provide. Are they hands-on? Will they do bed baths? Do they change bedding? Do they change briefs? How many hours will they sit vigil? Can they follow your wishes? How long have they been a doula? How many clients at the time? Will they be able to provide the care if something unexpected comes up?

What questions should clients think through before talking to doulas?

Do I have a Living Will, a Health and Financial Power of Attorney, a Do Not Resuscitate form, or a 5 Wishes? Would you like a funeral, a life ceremony, or a funeral before you pass? Cremation, Natural Burial. If so, where should the ashes go? Discuss comfort care with the hospice case manager.

What populations are you best suited to serve?

We specialize in Dementia End-Of-Life. Senior population

Do you offer any physical modalities or specialty training?

Training Knowledge of End-of-Life for Alzheimer/Dementia. Our Doulas have Caregiving Certifications

Do you work as part of a collaborative or independently?

We collaborate with hospice companies

Are you willing to work remotely?

I will, however would rather do in person
