IRS Form 4506

IRS Form 4506 is the Request for Copy of Tax Return.

This form is used to request a copy of a deceased person's previously filed tax return, including all attachments such as Forms W-2 or 1099.

Executors and Surviving Family typically request a copy of previous tax returns when Settling the deceased's Estate.

Reviewing a previous tax return will help identify the level of Debt the deceased may have incurred, as well as information needed to apply for a mortgage, student loan, or resolve an issue with the IRS.

When completing Form 4506, the requester must provide their personal information, including their name, Social Security number or taxpayer identification number, and current address.
