What should clients know about your pricing(e.g., discounts, fees, packages)?
Pricing is hourly, and a sliding scale is available.
What is your typical process for working with a new client?
New clients can book a discovery call or meet-up to assess their needs. Intake and plan of care are discussed in the first meeting. Client experiences are very individualized.
What are some of the ways you have supported someone at end-of-life?
The type of care I provide is always tailored to the client and their specific needs. I believe in client-centered care that keeps the client in control. I have assisted with logistics planning and collaborated with the community and family to provide in-home support.
I have worked with families to complete advance directives, source additional help in the community, locate and organize documents, downsize activities, and plan vigils.
Additionally, I educate families on their area's funeral and body disposition options. I offer bedside presence and respite care to family members and sit vigil with clients who are actively dying.
What advice would you give someone looking to hire an end-of-life doula?
1. Understand your needs: Reflect on your needs and wishes for end-of-life care. Knowing what you want will help you find a doula to meet those needs.
2. Research and referrals: Start by researching online or asking for referrals from healthcare providers, friends, or family who might have experience with end-of-life doulas. Schedule interviews with a few doulas to discuss your needs and see how they respond. Ask about their experience, services offered, and their approach to end-of-life care.
3. Discuss philosophy and approach: Understand the doula's philosophy on end-of-life care and make sure their approach aligns with your values and preferences. Ensure that the doula communicates clearly and respectfully. It's important that you feel comfortable and supported by them.
4. Ask about services: Inquire about their specific services, availability, and fee structure. Make sure their services align with your needs and budget. Ensure you clearly understand what to expect from the doula’s services and discuss any specific concerns or requests you have upfront.
5. Trust your instincts: Choose a doula with whom you feel a genuine connection and who you believe will provide the best support for you and your family.
What questions should clients think through before talking to doulas?
1. What kind of support do I want for myself and/or my loved ones?
2. What specific needs do I anticipate (physical, spiritual, emotional)?
3. What are my primary concerns or fears about end of life?
4. Do I have any particular wishes or preferences for how I want my final days to be?
5. What are my thoughts on hospice and palliative care?
6. Are there any cultural or religious practices I want to be honored?
7. What kind of legacy or memory do I want to leave behind?
What populations are you best suited to serve?
I am best suited to serve populations of humans who are interested in preparing for the end of life, regardless of their age, background, or demographic.
