I do a 30 day "calibration survey" to ensure that you are a happy, contented client. Aftercare support is also available for caregivers and family.

What are some of the ways you have supported someone at end-of-life?

I love what I do, and always look for moments in a session to help with clients who may be struggling with acceptance. I find Art Therapy is a wonderful tool to use. During a session with a gentleman, who had never painted before, we did a Art Therapy project on his deck, I encouraged him to be present in the moment, pay particular attention to the natural beauty and individuality of each bird as they frequented his feeders. Once done, I had him reflect on the birds, the meaning of flight, the freedom and peace they represented. Each having a oneness with the earth, yet a uniqueness. Being a man of Christian faith, we then reflected on the biblical verse of how not even one bird falls from the sky without the knowledge of the creator, and how wonderfully made and loved he was. As his Creator made a place for each feather on the birds, he is making a place for him to find freedom from the bodies limitations and the minds tolls.

What advice would you give someone looking to hire an end-of-life doula?

Ask questions, like those below, to potential end-of-life doulas to help discern who is a good fit for you. Remember that many doulas offer free consultations to talk about these things — so feel free to ask anything! What is your goal with your practice? How did you get into this work? Have you been trained and do you engage in ongoing professional development? What is your level of bedside/care experience? How many deaths have you supported/been present for? What are your available hours for contact? What is the scope of your services? What is your pricing structure? Do you have a sample contract I can view? Do you have back-up doulas or associates you work with in case you are unavailable? Are there any end-of-life options (such as medical aid in dying) or particular situations that you are unable to support your clients through?

What questions should clients think through before talking to doulas?

What the needs are currently, and what they will be in the future.

What populations are you best suited to serve?
