I am an INELDA trained end of life doula, and I am honored to accompany individuals and their families on their end-of-life journey. My approach is rooted in the belief that every person deserves to have a peaceful and meaningful transition, guided by their own desires and wishes. As an end of life doula, I am particularly passionate about legacy projects. I believe that leaving a lasting legacy is an essential part of the end-of-life process, allowing individuals to share their stories, values, and wisdom with future generations. Through collaboration and creativity, I assist in preserving and creating meaningful mementos that reflect the unique essence of each person. In addition to legacy projects, I also have a keen interest in guided meditation. I understand the power of mindfulness and inner reflection as tools for finding peace and acceptance during the end-of-life journey. Guided meditation sessions can help individuals connect with their inner selves, find solace, and cultivate a sense of calm amidst the challenges they may face. Another aspect that holds great importance to me is the vigil to honor the dying person as they leave their earthly body. I believe in creating a sacred and supportive space where family and loved ones can gather to offer their presence, love, and support during this profound transition. The vigil allows us to honor the person's life, create a sense of community, and provide comfort and companionship in their final moments. I recognize that each person has a lifetime of experiences, relationships, and dreams that shape their identity. End of life doula care is not one size fits all. I perform my work by following the lead of the client. As an end of life doula, it is my responsibility to hold space for the individual, seeing and honoring them as a whole person. By providing compassionate support, open communication, and personalized care, I strive to create a safe and nurturing environment where individuals can express their wishes, fears, and hopes.

As an end of life doula, I am dedicated to providing compassionate and holistic care to individuals and their families during the end-of-life journey. My role is centered around creating a supportive and comforting environment, ensuring that the person's final days are filled with dignity, comfort, and peace. Success in my role as a death doula is defined by the ability to establish deep connections with individuals and their families, fostering trust and open communication. By actively listening and understanding their unique needs and wishes, I strive to provide personalized care and guidance. Ultimately, success is measured by the ability to support individuals in finding comfort, creating meaningful end-of-life experiences, and honoring their life and legacy. ~ Carley

What is your typical process for working with a new client?

As an end-of-life doula, my approach to working with a new client is centered around building a trusting and compassionate relationship. When a client reaches out to me, I understand that they are seeking support during a deeply personal and vulnerable time. The first step in our journey together is an initial consultation. This is an opportunity for us to connect and discuss the client's needs, desires, and concerns. I listen attentively to their story, gaining a deeper understanding of their values, beliefs, and goals for their end-of-life journey.

What are some of the ways you have supported someone at end-of-life?

• Utilizing guided imagery, music, and providing gentle sensory aids to address discomfort, pain, and anxiety. • Providing practical and organizational support through the end of life process. • Providing emotional support to the dying person and their loved ones.

What advice would you give someone looking to hire an end-of-life doula?

The bookends of life are unique to every person and family. An end-of-life doula can offer support in a variety of ways. To ensure you are being best supported on this journey, it is recommended to assess where you already have the right support and tools in place and where you need additional support, whether it be physical, emotional, or spiritual.

What questions should clients think through before talking to doulas?

• Do I need help with practical planning for end of life, including paperwork, vigil plan and after death plan? • Am I in need of support navigating the medical system, hospice and help hiring caregivers? • Who are the most important people in my process, my circle of care? • Could I do with emotional support for me or my loved one(s)? • What is meaningful and important to me in life and in death? E.g. spirituality, religion, rituals, ceremony, simplicity, being alone or with people, at home or in care.

What populations are you best suited to serve?

I work with all ages. I'm also an advocate for choice at end of life. Working to plan a memorial that's meaningful to you does not have to wait until you are unwell. This is a process that can begin now.

Do you offer any physical modalities or specialty training?

• Guided Imagery

Do you offer any other services beyond end-of-life doula support (e.g. advanced care planning, paralegal, legacy services, chaplaincy services)?

At this time my focus is on doula support and funeral celebration.

Do you work as part of a collaborative or independently?

Currently I work independently. If a client or family members’ needs are beyond my scope of practice I am happy to place a referral to another practitioner.

Are you willing to work remotely?

Yes. I offer virtual sessions via zoom.
