After losing multiple family members in a single year, I found myself unmoored, unable to navigate all that was unfolding. That experience led me to cultivate a death awareness practice in my own life—and once I did, I discovered how profoundly it shifted not just my perspective, but my entire approach to living. Making room for dying has helped me live with more intention and presence, and I've been sharing this practice since 2023 through Room for Dying, my death-awareness project space in West Palm Beach. I'm a trained End-of-Life Doula, writer, and interdisciplinary artist with a background in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction. I'm passionate about creating sanctuary spaces where mortality can be explored with curiosity rather than fear. It's an honor to guide others in this profound work.

Most people avoid thinking about death until they're forced to—and then it’s overwhelming. I help people engage with mortality on their own terms, gently and before crisis arrives. Through Death Cafés and reflective writing experiences, I create space for careful conversations about life, death, and legacy—conversations rooted in mindfulness, curiosity, and compassion. Success means participants leave feeling a little steadier, a little more prepared, and deeply reconnected to what makes their life meaningful.

I steward Room for Dying, a mindful death-awareness interdisciplinary art studio in West Palm Beach, Florida, USA. My approach blends community Death Cafés with guided reflective writing experiences where participants craft their own obituaries. We explore mortality through careful conversation and guided journaling—slowing down to name what matters and honor the connections that shape a life.

My work is non-clinical, consent-based, and designed to create space for both curiosity and grief. It's for anyone seeking to live more intentionally by reflecting on the end. Participants often leave feeling steadier, more connected, and clearer about what matters most. Learn more at https://www.roomfordying.com

Participating in The Obituary was nothing short of revelatory. Michelle provided a gentle invitation to consider mortality and meaning, and her guided prompts provided a pathway through these important considerations that was as deeply moving as it was warmly supportive. As an artist and arts educator at midlife and midcareer, I appreciated having the opportunity to discern the elements of my creative work and career that are most important to carry forward into my next season. As a married woman, a mom of teens, and a daughter of swiftly aging parents, considering the interconnectedness of my life - and death - and those and those of my beloved others opened my eyes to the deeply beautiful connections that are present and possible in each moment we share.

Our busy world can leave little time for introspection. Room for Dying provides a way to thoughtfully consider the people and moments that have been most meaningful in our lives. For those who wish to understand themselves better and live more intentionally, this project is a stimulating and thought-provoking way to begin your journey.

Participating in Room for Dying was a deeply profound experience. The invitation to zoom out and examine my life from this panoramic perspective felt incredibly healing and clarifying. I was surprised by the themes that kept coming up over and over which I hadn't considered in years and which led to a more intentional approach to connecting with others and myself in the moment. The opportunity to reflect on our mortality also felt very grounding in the context of the difficult times the world is going through right now. I am deeply grateful to have been a part of this beautifully crafted and considered project.
