I came to this work in 2020, when, over the course of a year, I found myself helping both a good friend and my mom prepare for their deaths. Initially, they asked me for help navigating the logistics of death – the endless paperwork, whether to bury, cremate, or donate their bodies, the memorial planning, and communicating with friends and family. With over two decades of experience as an event planner and project manager, these tasks felt comfortable to me, even in this new context. When the weight of the details was lifted from for them, I witnessed a transformation as they had the time to really be with each other - to grieve, find closure, and truly honor their life in their last days together. As I sat beside with them in their last days, I realized that I was at ease with death and the dying process, and that my presence brought both comfort and reassurance. It was then that I realized that this was something I wanted to do for others. Over the following two years, I completed my training as a death doula with the Conscious Dying Institute and as an After-Loss Professional with PALs, trained as a bedside attendant for those pursuing Medical Aid in Dying, and volunteered as a hospice volunteer with Brighton Hospice. With these skills I am able to support those who are dying as well as the people they love before, during, and after they die. I am committed to help you and those you love create the space to honor your life in a way that truly matters.
Whether you are grieving or dying, or just want to get your affairs in order, I am here for you - before, during, and after the dying process. 💙 💠 BEFORE: I will help you create an end-of-life plan that clearly lay out your wishes and ensure all your important documents are in place, from advance directives to legal paperwork and digital assets. 💠 DURING: As a Death Doula and bedside attendant for Medical Aid in Dying, I provide non-medical support during the dying process. 💠 AFTER: As an Professional of After Loss services, I will make sure everything gets done, including honoring final wishes, memorials, post-death paperwork, closing accounts, and household clean-outs.

I found Kim after a terminal cancer diagnosis, and I’m so glad that I did. She worked with me and prepared a binder with information from our meetings: for example, my plans for donating my body, my wishes for how I’d like to be cared for closer to the end, a draft obituary that I wrote, etc. In addition, it’s a place for keeping my important documents (e.g., power of attorney) in one place. Kim definitely has a knack for finding a way to ask difficult questions with both skill and compassion. As an example, I initially didn’t think to plan any details about what type of memorial service I’d like, thinking that I would just leave it up to my family. But Kim told me that often the family really appreciates some guidance, so she helped me brainstorm some ideas, and I’m so happy that she did. I ended up with some very meaningful suggestions that I think will help comfort my loved ones as they’re grieving. Living with a terminal diagnosis certainly isn’t easy, neither for me nor my loved ones. But the work Kim did for me, and with me, frees up my time and energy to enjoy what time I have left with my family. If you or someone in your family is facing the end of life and are considering finding a death doula, I can’t recommend it strongly enough. And Kim is an amazing one. I’m so very glad to have had her help.

What a gift! I now have all necessary end-of-life documents organized into one folder and my household possessions are donated, sold, or recycled. Neither I nor my family will have to worry about finding important papers or clearing away a lifetime of clutter. No mess, no guilt, no judgement - I am free to spend meaningful time with my loved ones.

Kim was gentle, thoughtful, and continuously willing to listen to what is said and what is meant. She knows how to help ask tough questions in ways that seem thoughtful and kind. To ponder death is tough but to keep your thoughts focused is a gift that will last beyond your life and will be a gift for your family! It was an incredible gift to have time with Kim to focus on questions and topics to prepare for a wonderful experience of walking through the end of life and leaving a legacy for others. Kim was a gift!

What advice would you give someone looking to hire an end-of-life doula?
Brainstorm the kinds of help you want and need, thinking about what is bringing your anxiety or taking too much time away from being with those you love. Think about if you want them just to work with you or with other loved ones. Think about the kind of person you want to work with - what's their style, how do you want them to support you? Think about your budget. Interview them! Prepare a list of questions beforehand. Ask for references - check them! Know that every doula is unique - find the one that best matches what you need.
What questions should clients think through before talking to doulas?
What do I want a doula to do for me? For my family? What exact services does the doula provide? What do they NOT provide? How much time am I willing to spend? What is my budget? How much experience do they have? In what areas?
