Anthea Grimason is an end-of-life doula, intuitive guide and yoga teacher based in northern California’s Mill Valley. Irish by birth but a citizen of the world, she has traveled and lived around the globe. Anthea integrates yogic practices, spirituality and Reiki into her doula work to help people transition peacefully. She is also an advocate for personal choice for healing in life and in death, including access to holistic care, medical aid in dying, and psychedelic therapy.

I help people explore and heal from shame, fear and grief in a holistic way as a coach, doula or anam cara (soul friend). It is never too late to heal in order to become your real, authentic, truest self, at any stage of life. We all deserve to be able to access the joy, mystery and wonder of life even in the face of loss, suffering and death. It is my honor to companion people on that journey as a doula for living and dying.

What is your typical process for working with a new client?

What advice would you give someone looking to hire an end-of-life doula?

Every situation is different and end-of-life doulas can support in a variety of ways. Assess where you have the right support and tools in place for your own process, and where you need additional support, whether it be practical, emotional or spiritual.

What questions should clients think through before talking to doulas?

Do I need help with practical planning for end of life, including paperwork, vigil plan and after death plan? Am I in need of support navigating the medical system, hospice and help hiring caregivers? Who are the most important people in my process, my circle of care? Could I do with emotional support for me or my loved one(s)? What is meaningful and important to me in life and in death? E.g. spirituality, religion, rituals, ceremony, simplicity, being alone or with people, at home or in care.

Do you work as part of a collaborative or independently?

I work independently however have a wide network of other end-of-life doulas and other holistic and medical practitioners that I collaborate with.
