My work as a doula is to accompany clients on their transition journey, whether in life or at end-of-life. Death and transitions have been powerful spiritual teachers in my own journey. My mission is to be help others based on what I've learned in my own experiences. My passions include re-framing negative thoughts and beliefs, working with deep feelings and energy, after-life science, and seeing signs of loved ones after they pass, but I meet clients where they are and support their belief systems. I was called to meditate in 2014 that initiated my introduction into Kundalini Yoga, which includes breathwork, chanting, and a spiritual practice to get in touch with the higher self. I see now how these elements ground me to be able to be present and hold space for clients. Reiki: Reiki is a relaxing, no or minimal touch practice that channels energy through the practitioner to the client. This can be helpful at any stage of life and especially at end-of-life if physical, emotional, or mental pain or discomfort is experienced. My sessions often include singing bowls. February 2022 ~ Completed Level 3/Master Reiki training INELDA End-of-Life Doula Certificate: In May 2022 Love Knows No Death - A Continuing Bonds Approach, After-life Science: We now have extensive scientific evidence and research supporting that our consciousness survives death. Mental health professionals are coming to realize that patients who believe that their deceased loved ones still survive do better than those who do not believe in survival. Dr. Calvi-Parisetti is among many scientists whose research concludes that "Knowledge and understanding can transform the fear of death and can heal the pain of a loss." Of course there is unavoidable pain with the physical loss of our loved one, but the pain associated ourself or a loved one ceasing to exist is avoidable. Love Knows No Death is a Grief Transformation Self-help Workbook and Visual Program developed by Dr. Calvi-Parisetti. The “afterlife perspective,” once integrated into the grieving process, will allow you to lead a better life and truly honor those who have passed before you. https://www.deirdredoula.com/afterlife-science https://www.deirdredoula.com/about-me https://www.deirdredoula.com
Through active, non-judgmental listening, validating feelings, asking questions, and offering varied perspectives and ideas, I work with clients to identify and work through (or make a plan for) their mental, emotional and physical needs. I believe success is when my client feels fully prepared and ready to transition to their next grand adventure. https://www.deirdredoula.com

What types of services do you provide?
Initial Consultation Generally, our first meeting takes about two hours. We discuss where you are in your journey and where you would like to go. If you have physical symptoms, we discuss their possible interpretations and visualizations. I can then offer a reiki session. Reiki Reiki is an energy healing technique that promotes relaxation, reduces stress and anxiety through gentle touch (no-touch options) Reiki practitioners use their hands to channel energy to your body, improving the flow and balance of your energy to support healing. Reiki can be done in-person, remotely, or over the phone/zoom. In-person reiki may also incorporate music and sound bath instruments such as singing bowls. Deep Active Listening & Mapping Emotions One of the most important offerings for every conversation we have is called "deep active listening." Sometimes all that's needed is a phone conversation to discuss what's going on and the associated feelings. Additionally, we can map some key emotions to work a path through the emotions to break lose of feelings of being "stuck." Guided Imagery & Journeys Guided imagery is a relaxation technique that involves visualizing positive, peaceful settings like a beautiful beach or a peaceful meadow. This technique is also known as visualization or guided meditation. According to research, guided imagery can help reduce stress, anxiety, promote relaxation, and ease various symptoms related to stress. This offering is easy to do over the phone or via zoom. There are also many great resources on YouTube. Journeying builds on the guided meditation by adding on (stacking) reiki, sound bath instruments, breathwork, and other energy tools. Intention setting and integration are also components of journey work as well as optional plant medicine elements. This option is best in person, but other arrangements can be arranged. Legacy & Life Review Life review and legacy work is important to help provide us with a sense that our life has had meaning and purpose. This work can be done at any point in life, and is especially helpful before end of life since death teaches how to live. A life review can be a series of conversations where I use deep active listening. Conversations may queue healing conversations or other kinds of follow-up to help you feel more settled and peaceful. Legacy work is an opportunity for you, family, and friends to get creative as their are many expressions of legacy. Ideas include everything from photo and scrap books, letters, and parties, to benches and charitable foundations. Vigil (last days) Planning & Sitting, including Ritual & Ceremony Planning Just like we prepare our wills and trusts, it is important to think through what we would like our final days. Ideally like our will, we don't need a terminal diagnosis to prepare, and these wishes can be kept with other end-of-life documents. In this process, we discuss what your surrounding environment looks, feels, sounds and even smells like, who should be present, and what the atmosphere is like. Ideally, most people prefer a calm setting, music, and scents to allow a peaceful transition. We can also discuss any specific rituals or ceremonies you would like preformed at various end-of-life stages such as beginning hospice or after the last breath is taken. Spiritual Awakenings Companion As we work through many of the processes listed above, peeling back and healing old wounds, we may begin to experience life on a whole new level. We may feel lighter. We may feel like we begin to understand how to live life. One of the most important offering for every conversation we have is called "deep active listening." Sometimes all that's needed is a phone conversation to discuss what's going on and the associated feelings. Additionally, we can map some key emotions to work a path through the emotions to break lose of feelings of being "stuck." https://www.deirdredoula.com/offerings

What is your typical process for working with a new client?
1. Initial phone conversation discussing their needs and how I can potentially meet those needs. 2. In-person or zoom meeting for Initial Consultation and discussion of next steps.
What are some of the ways you have supported someone at end-of-life?
- Discussion client feelings and how they can support themselves (get needs met) and relate to their loved ones through the transition process. - Sitting with client during transition process to support client and family. - Family support after client passing - Periodic check-ins
What advice would you give someone looking to hire an end-of-life doula?
End of life is a sacred time. The companion you choose really needs to reflect and have your confidence for implementing your intentions for the best transition possible. Trust your intuition - choose someone that you feel comfortable opening up to and emotionally supported by. Listen to your heart. Does this person inspire you? Do you trust them to carry out your vision? Do you have an overall good feeling about them? Are they heart or head centered? How do they fit with you? Trust your feelings and intuition.
What questions should clients think through before talking to doulas?
Sit quietly and consider first what feelings would you like to have during your transition? Being surrounded by love and at peace perhaps? Then imagine what elements in your surroundings would give you that sense of peace and love? What smells, sights, lighting, people, sounds, energy, tone, colors, etc. do you feel would support your sense of peace and love? For instance looking at nature, people singing, someone reading the Bible, music, incense, surrounded by loved ones sharing memories, prayers, etc. How would you like to be remembered? This gets to your legacy and whether you would like this included as an element in your planning. How would you like to be supported during journey? What specific things are your looking for doula support with? - Do you need a non-judgmental listener who can help you process the many emotions, which may include regrets, unfinished business, guilt or shame without burdening your friends and family who are already processing their own emotions? - Would you feel more at peace doing a life review to know our life was meaningful and you fulfilled what you came here to do? - Do you need help brainstorming and visualizing how to make this transition the best possible for you? - Would you like a guide to accompany you, letting you know what to expect at various stages of the transition process and sending you loving energy throughout? - Do you need your doula to already have specialized experience such as for cultural or spiritual requests or would you be willing to train the doula in this area?
What populations are you best suited to serve?
I'm open to learning about any and all populations. My license plate is "love everyone." I have no specialized areas, but can research and am open to learning based on needs. My own cultural background is Irish Catholic, but my current spiritual practices are considered "New Age."
Do you offer any physical modalities or specialty training?
I am a reiki master and also offer singing bowls during my reiki sessions. Most of my work is emotional and energetically-focused.
Do you offer any other services beyond end-of-life doula support (e.g. advanced care planning, paralegal, legacy services, chaplaincy services)?
No, I would refer those out.
Do you work as part of a collaborative or independently?
Independently, but I can integrate with a team or collaborative if needed.
Are you willing to work remotely?
Yes
